Let's get your camera working.
Almost everything below takes under a minute to fix, and a real person reads every report.
Start with Diagnostics.
The Windows app can check itself: the service, the camera registration, Windows camera permissions, the USB support and the connection. It names the thing that is wrong in plain words, and where the fix is safe it is one button. Open the Diagnostics tab before trying anything on this page.
Common problems
The camera is not in my app's list
Most apps read the camera list only when they start. Quit the app fully and open it again; browsers and Discord need every window closed, not just the tab. If it still does not appear, Diagnostics will say why.
Nothing happens when I plug the cable in
Many bundled cables only carry power, so try another cable first. Unlock the phone and tap Trust if iOS asks. Cable connections also need Apple's USB support on the PC; the installer offers it, and Diagnostics can tell you whether it is present.
Wi-Fi will not connect
Both devices must be on the same network, and guest or hotel networks usually keep devices apart on purpose. Windows must treat the network as Private for the firewall rule to apply. After a reinstall the old pairing is gone by design: scan the QR code once more.
The picture lags or stutters
A cable is the fix that always works. On Wi-Fi, prefer the 5 GHz band and keep the quality setting on Auto so it can adapt; a crowded network shows up as exactly this.
The call shows a message instead of my video
When the phone is not connected, the camera explains why on a status card instead of freezing. If you would rather it stay discreet in meetings, Settings in the Windows app can switch the waiting screen to plain black.
The phone gets warm on long sessions
4K at 60 frames is real work for any phone. A cable, 4K30 or 1080p60, or a thinner case all help. The phone reports its thermal state to the PC, so the Windows app will tell you when heat is the cause.
Still stuck? Report it.
Open an issue with what you tried and what happened. The most useful thing to attach: in the Windows app, open Settings, use Copy diagnostics report, and paste it in.
